Thinking of finding out if Botox could smooth out your complexion?

Frowns of concern

If you have recently noticed the first visible signs of ageing on your face – such as prominent frown lines – you are not alone, and getting treatments like Botox Kent which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles or fine lines has never been easier.

Many people assume that the only way to minimise the effects of ageing is through invasive, surgical cosmetic procedures, which are both costly and off putting for many.

Botox offers the perfect way to temporarily rid your complexion of wrinkles and give you a smoother face – without the need for surgery or invasive measures.

Where do frown lines come from?

When you are stressed your cortisol levels increase, which is the body’s primary stress hormone and one which speeds up the ageing process.

These increased levels of cortisol can cause your skin to lose its firmness and elasticity – which can in turn cause wrinkles to appear more pronounced and visible.

This can significantly knock your self-esteem, especially if the change in your complexion seems to happen out of the blue. Thankfully, getting Botox treatment is far simpler and faster than you may imagine, and can fully reverse the visibility of any lines through treatment which takes just ten minutes or less.

How does Botox work?

Botox treatment reverses the appearance of creases, fine lines and wrinkles on your skin by blocking the signals which your nerves transmit to certain facial muscles.

When Botox is injected into specific muscle groups and areas where wrinkles are prominent, the nerves cannot contract or tense themselves and therefore appear smoother and more relaxed.

There are several areas throughout your face and body where Botox injections could help smooth your skin, but they are most commonly used in areas such as the forehead to treat frown lines, around the eyes to smooth out crow’s feet and around the mouth.

What is getting Botox like?

When people consider cosmetic treatments like Botox they often mistake it for plastic surgery, which usually calls for extensive surgical treatment and has lengthy healing times.

In reality, however, Botox treatment is practically painless and can be fully completed in just 10 minutes or so. The first thing which will happen at your appointment is the practitioner will identify the areas of your face where wrinkles are most visible.

After identifying the areas to treat they will then administer the injections into them, which will only be slightly uncomfortable and take just moments, as no anaesthetic is needed. On the whole, after completing Botox injections it can take roughly between a week to fourteen days for the injections to take full effect.

It is recommended that you avoid alcohol for at least the first week after getting Botox treatment, as well as refraining from taking any blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or anti-inflammatories for at least two weeks afterwards, to avoid any bruising. You should be able to see the visible effects of Botox injections for around 3 to 6 months, depending on the amount of treatment you receive.
